Liberal Party NEC Statement - The UK's commitment to reducing Climate Change
#1
The Liberal Party notes with grave concerns the recent announcements by the Government to scale back or delay a wide range of environmental commitments created to address the threat of climate change.

Initives such as the energy efficiency taskforce, tasked with promoting increase household insulation are to be scraped and plans to end sales of petrol and diesel cars, and the replacement of gas boilers delayed.

With the prospects of containing global warming to within 1.5 Degree C increasingly out of reach the UK cannot afford to be hesitating in its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and achieving Net-Zero.

Climate changes are already having a costly impact upon the UK including increased flash flooding, and summer heat waves.

Scaling back our ambition risks delaying investment in new greener technologies which benefit both the economy and offer employment opportunities.

The effects of Climate change effect people and communities irrespective of their voting intensions and it is for the Govt be giving clear leadership in the drive for a better, greener future.
