Posted by: ReadingLib - 05-09-2021, 12:01 PM - Forum: NEC Press Releases - No Replies

Dear Editor

The behaviour of Derek Jackson, as the Liberal Party Candidate at the Glasgow Southside Election Count was totally disgusting and has resulted in his membership being immediately suspended, furthermore it is subject to an Emergency Meeting of the Liberal Party NEC this afternoon

We wish to make it clear the personal attack on Mr Yousaf was nothing less than revolting

Can we make robustly clear that The Liberal Party has supported the government vaccination programme ,which in accordance with Liberal Values It is a voluntary programme

Emergency Liberal Party NEC Statement - Glagow Southside Candidate
Posted by: ReadingLib - 05-07-2021, 08:02 PM - Forum: NEC Press Releases - No Replies

THE LIBERAL PARTY
7TH MAY 2021
Emergency Liberal Party NEC Statement - Glagow Southside Candidate

The Liberal Party notes with considerable concern the behaviour of its former candidate, Derek Jackson, at the election count for the Glasgow Southside Scottish Parliament seat and does not in any way endorse his actions. Mr Jackson's membership has been suspended with immediate effect.

The Liberal Party is sorry for any offence Mr Jackson may have caused to any members of the public or to other candidates. Mr Jackson, who has acted entirely independently in adopting certain symbols and gestures has massively misrepresented The Liberal Party and its core values.

The Liberal Party vehemently and actively opposes any form anti-Semitism or racism or the use of any symbols which evoke or promotes any such sentiments. The Liberal Party stands for a society that is open, tolerant and equal for all individuals and communities, whatever their heritage, faith or gender.

Letter to Reading Chroncile - Council Accounts late for 5th Occasion
Posted by: ReadingLib - 05-01-2021, 10:02 AM - Forum: Local Association Press Releases - No Replies

I am writing this letter in response to the Reading Chronicle news item(22nd April) detailing the announcement that Reading Borough Council will now miss the deadline for signing off its financial accounts for a fifth time.

The announcement of a delay in the filing on the eve of local elections on the 6th May is now becoming an all too regular occurrence and one which should simply not keep happening.

This is not a record the Labour run council should be proud of not least when the estimated cost overruns are now more than £1 million of local council taxpayers hard earned monies.

As I have stated on previous occasions, filling the annual accounts on time shows that the council is being run in an efficient and transparent way.

In the meantime, I am grateful for the opportunity to be on the ballot in Norcot ward for the local elections in May, and equal please to see at least 5 independent candidates as well as other minority party candidates on the ballot.

This gives the electorate of Reading the opportunity to hold the council to account at the hustings and potential in the council chamber for their continued inability to manage the councils financial reporting.

Scottish Election Address Deek Jackson and the Liberal Party
Posted by: ReadingLib - 04-20-2021, 06:51 PM - Forum: Local Association Press Releases - No Replies

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, thank you for giving Deek Jackson the Liberal Party candidate for Glasgow Southside the opportunity to submit a few words for sharing during your hustings meeting.
First to clarify, the Liberal Party is not connected in anyway, with the LibDems, we are the continuing Liberal Party made up of members who refused to join a merger with the SDP.

The preamble to the Liberal Party constitution states:

"The Liberal Party exists to build a Liberal Society in which every citizen shall possess liberty, property and security, and none shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. Its chief care is for the rights and opportunities of the individual and in all spheres it sets freedom first."

The Liberal Party policies are time tested, environmentally green, left of centre, putting people at the heart of policy making.

As Liberals we believe that people should have good quality education, health care and housing as a right!

Democracy is underpinned by our rights and freedoms, which are constantly under threat.

Deek Jackson supports Liberal Party policy and has chosen Glasgow Southside to bring focus to the appalling new law introduced by the SNP recently.    The new law makes it a criminal offence to speak your mind in your own home.

Deek commented

“I may joke or posture or speak provocatively in my home on many issues, which if denounced or surveilled by the state could now see me prosecuted for a hate crime”.

“Freedom of speech is freedom of thought and freedom of belief - the SNP and coalition partners are stripping the people of Scotland of a fundamental right”.

“All freedom loving people should oppose this dark turn in Scotland’s affairs”.

Liberal Party policies are available for public scrutiny on our website

A vote for Deek Jackson on May 6th is a vote for Freedom and Liberty.

Liberal Party Emergency Statement - The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Court Bill 2021

"The Liberal Party stands strongly against the Police, Crimes, Sentencing and Courts Bill 2021 and asks all MPs to oppose it.

This bill is an attack on the British traditions of the rights to speech and assembly, Our Human rights and our civil liberties."

Bramley Moore Dock - Historic England think again – Open Letter:
Posted by: ReadingLib - 03-11-2021, 09:25 PM - Forum: Local Association Press Releases - No Replies

Having been brought up on Rugby and having a profound disinterest in football I think I could be considered a more than objective member of the Planning Committee hearing the case by Everton to move to and develop the Bramley Moore dock site.

In the presentation, I was impressed that Everton was committing to invest in public transport at the Sandhills Station.
The call in by Historic England. I fear is totally the wrong approach. Most Northern cities are littered with listed buildings which are supposedly “protected”.

In reality, they are mothballed and allowed to deteriorate over time to the point of no return. The best way to actually preserve and open up Heritage sites is to adopt them to become commercially viable sites whilst at the same time enhancing the heritage features into a community use.

At Bramley Moore Dock the historic railway lines are to be kept and the hydraulic tower to be saved and developed as a visitor facility.

I hope the Secretary of State will take note this proposal was supported by all parties, Labour Liberals and Lib Dems, on the Planning Committee in dare I say a rare case of unanimity.

I would urge Historic England to actually take a more realistic approach to supporting historic sites being developed for a long term future and being opened up to the public rather than left to deterioration behind closed walls.
