THE STEEL INDUSTRY

Are Labour right about their fear for the British Steel industry? What should the Liberal Party position be?

There is a good argument for saying that the steel industry is of strategic importance and as a strategic asset should be preserved. As a first step the government should kick some asses in the European Commission. There was an anti-dumping complaint laid against the Chinese steel industry 12 months ago but nothing yet has been done about it. There again maybe the government can't kick too hard as the rumours are that the main delay is being caused by British officials. Wonder if it has anything to do with funding for a nuclear plant?

If Germany can support its steel industry why can't we? Certain industries need state support.
A politician is a person with whose politics you don't agree; if you agree with him he's a statesman. (David Lloyd George).

Totally agree certain industries need state support when they are vital to the national interest. Over the years our economy has lost far too many as a result of lack of government support.
