Liberal Party NEC Statement – The Escalation of Gaza Violence - ReadingLib - 05-19-2025
The Liberal Party views the recent intensification of violence in the Gaza Strip with increased horror.
Over two years since the brutal Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023 the conflict has escalated into a punitive Israeli campaign which goes far beyond securing the country’s borders and seeks to end the Palestinian community’s presence in Gaza.
We have long supported the admission of the Palestinian nation into the UN, which would offer the Palestinians increased of protection under international law.
Such a move will only secure a lasting peace in the region if it is carried out in step with moves to enforce a permanent ceasefire, the enforcement of international law in step with the removal of the influence of Hamas and the immediate release of all hostages.
